Sandy Alcantara - Fans five in scoreless effortAlcantara allowed just two hits in 5.2 scoreless innings Saturday in a Grapefruit League outing against the Nationals.
ImpactAlcantara walked two and struck out five in an impressive outing for the 2022 Cy Young winner, as he made his return from the WBC. The right-hander now has a 0.87 ERA during his time in the Grapefruit League, and he has shown no signs that he won't be a strong fantasy option again in 2023. He'll likely make one more spring start before an Opening Day outing March 30 against the Mets.
MARCH 18, 2023ROTOWIRE
Giovanny Gallegos - Picks up save vs. Puerto RicoGallegos allowed two hits, but he was able to fire a scoreless inning Friday to pick up a save in the World Baseball Classic for Team Mexico against Puerto Rico.
ImpactGallegos threw 11 of 17 pitches for strikes, and he was able to fan Enrique Hernandez to get out of trouble. The right-hander is saving games for Team Mexico, but he is expected to operate in a setup role for the Cardinals in the regular season.

Jordan Hicks - Mixed results so farHicks has allowed four earned runs on six hits and five walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings over six Grapefruit League appearances.
ImpactHicks' strikeout potential remains enticing, but the overall results are not where they need to be to feel confident about his ability to fill a high-leverage role. With experience as a starter, there's always the option to stretch Hicks out for long-relief duties, but the right-hander has also had success in the past as a reliever. He's little more than a late-draft dart throw in fantasy given his skill set.

Nolan Gorman - Hitting wellGorman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored in Friday's Grapefruit League win over the Marlins.
ImpactGorman has benefited from the Cardinals having a number of players away at the World Baseball Classic. He's hit .324 (11-for-34) with nine RBI, six runs scored and a 6:12 BB:K through 13 Grapefruit League games. Gorman may not have a consistent everyday position, but Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post-Disptatch reports Gorman will back up Nolan Arenado at third base in addition to being an option at second base and designated hitter this season. Gorman came up through the minors as a third baseman before switching to the keystone, but with utility man Brendan Donovan around, Gorman likely won't need to move around as much.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Swats second spring homerChisholm went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's split-squad game against the Cardinals.
ImpactBrian Miller got the start in center field during the contest but left before his first plate appearance and handed things off to Chisholm, who flashed his power in the eighth inning by turning around a Jordan Hicks fastball and driving it over the wall in left-center field. The 25-year-old is having a solid spring at the plate, going 9-for-29 (.310) with two doubles, two homers and a steal, but Chisholm's adjustment to his new defensive duties in center field remains a work in progress.
MARCH 18, 2023ROTOWIRE
Joey Wendle - Coming around at plateWendle went 1-for-3 with a double in Friday's split-squad game against the Cardinals.
ImpactBatting sixth and getting the start at shortstop, Wendle collected only his fourth hit of the spring in 26 at-bats, but three of them have come in his last three games. The 32-year-old has never really held a starting assignment over a full MLB season -- he's topped 500 plate appearances only twice in his career, with his career high being 545 -- and the Marlins' late signing of Jose Iglesias would give them an option at shortstop if Wendle proves he's better suited for a utility role. That said, he hit 11 homers in 2021 and stole 12 bases in 2022, so he has the skills to be a fantasy asset as a late-round pick if he can keep his starting job.
MARCH 18, 2023ROTOWIRE
A.J. Puk - Dominant spring continuesPuk walked one and struck out three in a scoreless eighth inning during Friday's split-squad game against the Cardinals.
ImpactThe southpaw continued an outstanding spring that has seen him post a 7:1 K:BB through three scoreless innings. Puk figures to be one of the Marlins' top high-leverage relievers this season and in the mix for saves as new manager Skip Schumaker deploys a closer committee, but the fact that Dylan Floro worked ahead of him Friday in the sixth inning -- when St. Louis still had most of its starters in the lineup -- could be a sign the right-hander remains ahead of Puk in the pecking order.
