Packy Naughton - Claimed by CardinalsNaughton was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals on Monday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ImpactNaughton will remain on a 40-man roster after being designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday. He hasn't done anything to suggest he deserves an Opening Day roster spot, as he recorded a 6.35 ERA and 12:14 K:BB in his major-league debut last season.

Tylor Megill - Working on cutterMegill has added a cutter to his arsenal this spring, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe 26-year-old is still looking for a pitch that can be effective against left-handed hitters, who posted a .995 OPS against him last season. "I definitely wanted to add another weapon," Megill said Sunday. "I wanted something hard and something that goes in to lefties, so they can respect the four-seam. If I have something hard and in, it's just an advantage for me to get on their hands and allow them to second-guess themselves." The addition of Chris Bassitt to the Mets' rotation likely means Megill will begin the season at Triple-A Syracuse despite his surprising performance last year as a rookie, so he'll have some time to hone the new pitch before a potential call-up later this summer. Megill tossed three scoreless innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, giving up two hits and three walks while striking out three.

Starling Marte - Nature of injury unclearMarte suggested Sunday that the injury to his left side may not be just an oblique issue, Deesha Thosar of The New York Daily News reports.
ImpactThe outfielder has been able to run and play defense but has yet to begin hitting, and it's possible Marte won't be ready for Opening Day. Both he and Mets manager Buck Showalter have indicated the issue was oblique soreness, but Marte also hinted that an MRI has picked up something else that might be related to the fractured rib he sustained last season. "I don't know. It's weird," Marte said. "They think it was my oblique. I think [so] too. But [the] MRI shows something a little bit different." If he's able to resume hitting during the coming week, however, he'll be on track for an early season debut regardless of the exact nature of the problem.

Yadier Molina - Arrives at campMolina (personal) arrived at the Cardinals' big-league camp Monday.
ImpactMolina was absent for the first week of Cardinals camp while tending to a personal matter, but the 39-year-old wasn't likely to see extensive use anyway in the early days of spring training as he gears up for his 18th big-league campaign. Though Molina is no longer a perennial Gold Glove candidate, he remains a plus defender and at least a serviceable performer at the dish relative to other catchers around the league. While Molina may receive at least a couple maintenance days per week in what will likely be his final season in the majors, the lack of high-impact fantasy performers at the catcher spot makes him a draft-worthy option in all but the shallowest of leagues. He's coming off a 2021 season in which he hit .252 with 11 home runs, 66 RBI, 45 runs and three stolen bases over 472 plate appearances.

Miles Mikolas - Full health in spring openerMikolas was hitting 94 mph regularly in his initial spring training outing and is feeling good after suffering multiple injuries the last two years, Rick Hummel of The St. Louis Po...
ImpactThe Cardinals needed some good pitching news given the setbacks for Jack Flaherty (shoulder) and Alex Reyes (shoulder) this spring. Mikolas was in great spirits following the outing. "My tagline right now is it feels good to feel good," he said. "It's a weight off your shoulders physically and mentally to not be warming up and thinking, 'How is it going to feel today?'''
