José Fermín - Sitting SaturdayFermin isn't in the Cardinals' lineup Saturday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactFermin has gone 3-for-10 with a walk since assuming a starter role with Nolan Arenado (back) on the injured list. He'll get a breather Saturday as Irving Lopez starts at third base and bats eighth.

Jurickson Profar - Remains on benchProfar will sit for the third straight game Saturday against St. Louis, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactProfar started five straight games after joining the roster in early September, but he's since started just two of the last eight games. He went 3-for-4 in each of his first two games back with San Diego but is just 2-for-18 since then.

Joe Musgrove - Resumes throwingMusgrove (shoulder) restarted a throwing program Friday and will pace himself moving forward according to the Padres' chances of making the postseason, Annie Heilbrunn of The San D...
ImpactMusgrove was eased off his throwing program in mid-September with San Diego apparently out of playoff contention, though the hurler clarified Friday that he was always going to resume throwing Sept. 23. However, the plan moving forward may have changed a bit with the Padres reeling off eight straight wins and getting to within four games of the final NL wild-card spot. They still have a pretty daunting task in trying to make up that ground with just over a week left in the regular season, but it appears Musgrove may ramp back up more quickly than expected if the team is able to cut further into the deficit. Heilbrunn reports that should the pieces fall into place and the Padres were to qualify for the playoffs, Musgrove would look to contribute out of the bullpen.

Jake Woodford - Slated to start SaturdayThe Cardinals list Woodford as their probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Padres in San Diego.
ImpactBefore he was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Monday, Woodford had been getting stretched out as a starter in the minors, covering no fewer than three innings in any of his last four outings. However, the Cardinals deployed out of the bullpen against Milwaukee on Tuesday, when he struck out three over 2.2 scoreless innings. Though he'll be starting Saturday, Woodford will be taking the hill on three days' rest, so he probably can't be expected to cover the five innings he would need to hit to qualify for a win. Woodford will be taking the rotation spot of Adam Wainwright, who isn't scheduled to start this weekend but could work out of the bullpen if the Cardinals need someone to eat innings once Woodford exits the contest.

Luis García - Tagged with blown save FridayGarcia was charged with a blown save as a result of giving up one run on two hits and a walk against St. Louis on Friday. His only out came via a strikeout.
ImpactGarcia was summoned from the bullpen to begin the eighth inning with San Diego clinging to a 2-1 lead. The right-hander couldn't get the job done, allowing a run to score on a Paul Goldschmidt single and a Jordan Walker triple before he was able to record an out. Garcia was then lifted after issuing a one-out walk to Ivan Herrera, but Robert Suarez was able to retire the next two batters without allowing another run to cross the plate to save Garcia's ERA from further damage. After racking up 11 consecutive scoreless appearances covering 13.2 frames between Aug. 19 and Sept. 15, Garcia has now allowed three earned runs across his past three outings covering two innings.
