Nature of injury unclear Marte suggested Sunday that the injury to his left side may not be just an oblique issue, Deesha Thosar of The New York Daily News reports. Impact The outfielder has been able to run and play defense but has yet to begin hitting, and it's possible Marte won't be ready for Opening Day. Both he and Mets manager Buck Showalter have indicated the issue was oblique soreness, but Marte also hinted that an MRI has picked up something else that might be related to the fractured rib he sustained last season. "I don't know. It's weird," Marte said. "They think it was my oblique. I think [so] too. But [the] MRI shows something a little bit different." If he's able to resume hitting during the coming week, however, he'll be on track for an early season debut regardless of the exact nature of the problem.
