Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, MD
Spenser Watkins - Heads to ILThe Orioles placed Watkins on the 15-day injured list Monday.
ImpactThough Watkins avoided any structural damage to his right forearm and escaped with a bruise after he was struck by a line drive three batters into his start in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Rays, the 29-year-old is still experiencing enough discomfort a day later to take him out of the mix for his next turn through the rotation. Unless the Orioles are willing to advance top prospect Grayson Rodriguez to the big leagues, Keegan Akin or Mike Baumann could be the top candidates to enter the rotation in place of Watkins when a fifth starter is next needed during Saturday's doubleheader in Boston.

Mike Baumann - Sent back downBaumann was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
ImpactBaumann was recently recalled by the Orioles, and he allowed a run on three hits and no walks while striking out two in 3.2 relief innings against the Rays on Saturday. He's posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 11 innings over six outings with the major-league club this year, but he'll head back to Norfolk after Marcos Diplan was recalled Monday.

Tyler Nevin - Bound for minorsThe Orioles optioned Nevin to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
ImpactNevin saw a streak of 14 consecutive starts come to an end in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Rays, and his opportunities with the big club were expected to become more scarce moving forward following Ryan Mountcastle's return from the 10-day injured list earlier in the weekend. Rather than keeping Nevin around as a luxury bench piece who would typically only start against left-handed pitching, the Orioles will send the 24-year-old back to Norfolk so he can play on a more frequent basis.

Beau Sulser - Rejoins BaltimoreThe Orioles recalled Sulser from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
ImpactHe'll be one of three right-handed relievers the Orioles will bring up for Monday's series opener with the Yankees after Baltimore needed six bullpen arms to record all 33 outs of Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Rays when Spenser Watkins (elbow) exited after allowing all three batters he faced to reach base. Sulser's first appearance out of the bullpen will mark his Orioles debut, after he was optioned to Norfolk when he was claimed off waivers from the Pirates earlier this month. He previously made his big-league debut for Pittsburgh earlier in 2022, covering 9.2 innings over four relief outings while giving up four earned runs on eight hits and six walks.
MAY 23, 2022ROTOWIRE
Marcos Diplán - Recalled by OriolesDiplan was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
ImpactDiplan returned to the minors in mid-April, and he's posted a 0.71 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 12.2 innings over 11 relief appearances in Norfolk this year. He'll rejoin the Orioles' bullpen after Mike Baumann was sent down Monday. In spite of Diplan's minor-league success, he'll likely pitch mainly in low-leverage situations for Baltimore.
MAY 23, 2022ROTOWIRE
Logan Gillaspie - Back in big leaguesThe Orioles recalled Gillaspie from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
ImpactGillaspie is one of three right-handed relievers the Orioles will bring up for Monday's series opener with the Yankees after Baltimore needed six bullpen arms to record all 33 outs of Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Rays when Spenser Watkins (elbow) exited after allowing all three batters he faced to reach base. The Orioles placed Watkins on the 15-day injured list to clear a spot on the roster for Gillaspie, who had previously been optioned to Triple-A on Saturday.
