ImpactArcher is still expected to be utilized as a conventional starter more often than not, but Berry notes some members of the rotation not named Tyler Glasnow may also be asked to log bulk-relief work on occasion. Archer last pitched out of the bullpen during the 2013 AL Division Series, but he emphasized Friday he's ready to help the team in whatever capacity necessary. "Not playing baseball for a long time, really, it humbled me," Archer said. "I've put my ego to the side and I'm more open-minded. It also helps that the guys that we'll be bringing in are really, really talented."

Pair of strikeouts in returnKiermaier (quadriceps) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in a Grapefruit League loss to the Red Sox on Friday.
ImpactThe veteran outfielder returned after missing Wednesday's game while managing a minor quadriceps issue. Adam Berry of MLB.com reports Kiermaier, who already also missed time earlier this spring with hip tightness, is scheduled to miss a few days in the coming week due to the birth of his second child. However, Kiermaier got plenty of work in during back-field "B" games earlier in March and remains confident about his regular-season readiness.

Pitches to contact FridayHill allowed three earned runs on five hits over 2.2 innings in a Grapefruit League loss to the Red Sox on Friday. He struck out three.
ImpactThe left-hander stretched out to 58 pitches while getting tagged for multiple earned runs for the second time in three spring starts. Despite some of the struggles, Hill has managed to avoid the long ball thus far through 6.2 Grapefruit League innings, continuing his career-long trend of doing a good job keeping the ball in the park. He lines up for at least one more start before the regular season commences.

Serving as DH on SaturdayCordero is batting seventh and serving as the designated hitter during Saturday's spring game against Atlanta, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
ImpactCordero will make his Grapefruit League debut Saturday after participating in "B" games and simulated games over the past week. The 26-year-old had a delayed start to spring training after testing positive for COVID-19 and has been brought along slowly as a result. Manager Alex Cora hasn't officially ruled Cordero out for Opening Day, but he said Saturday that the team will take a cautious approach to make sure that he's fully healthy to begin the regular season, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. While he'll have just under two weeks to appear in spring games, Cordero could require a short stint on the injured list to begin the year.
