On track to start Thursday Skubal (lower leg) has a bruise on his left shin but is scheduled to make his next turn through the rotation Thursday against the Guardians, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact The 25-year-old had Friday's start cut short after being struck by a line drive, but the injury appears to be a minor concern. Skubal still finished with five shutout innings and has a 21:5 K:BB and 0.83 WHIP over 18 scoreless frames in his past three outings. The lefty will still receive an extra day between starts to rest up, so he'll take on Cleveland at home rather than pitching Wednesday at Minnesota.

Diagnosed with contusion Skubal was diagnosed with a left leg contusion after exiting Friday's game against the Guardians, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact Skubal was hit by a comebacker at the end of the fifth inning Friday and immediately went to the clubhouse with a trainer after limping off the field. He'll be reevaluated by the Tigers' medical staff Saturday but should tentatively be considered day-to-day. If he's cleared to make his next turn through the rotation, he projects to make his next start on the road against Minnesota on Wednesday.

Impact Skubal was able to limp off the field after being hit by a comebacker to end the fifth inning, but he went to the clubhouse with a trainer and was replaced in the bottom of the sixth. Prior to his departure, the southpaw allowed four hits and no walks while striking out five in five scoreless innings. The nature and severity of his injury aren't yet clear, and whether he's forced to miss time remains to be seen.

Impact Skubal gave up six runs (five earned) during his final start in April, but he's been dominant over his first three May outings. The southpaw has posted three consecutive quality starts, and he matched his career high with 11 strikeouts during Sunday's victory. Since the start of May, Skubal has recorded a 0.95 ERA, 25:5 K:BB and 0.89 WHIP in 19 innings. He projects to make his next start on the road against Cleveland on Saturday.

It was the second time this year that the lefty has tossed at least six scoreless innings, and his ERA is down to a stellar 2.94. Skubal also has 34 strikeouts against just six walks across 33.2 innings, as his breakout seems to be underway. The 25-year-old's next scheduled outing is set for Sunday against the Orioles.

Looks good in no-decision Thursday Skubal allowed just two runs on six hits across six innings but did not factor in the decision in Thursday's loss to the Astros. He didn't walk anyone and struck out nine.
Impact A pair of solo home runs provided all the Houston offense against Skubal, as the lefty otherwise stymied a tough lineup. However, he got zero run support while he was in the game and would have taken his third loss of the season if not for a Jeimer Candelario two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. Skubal probably deserves more than one win with his 3.04 ERA and 29:3 K:BB across 26.2 innings, but the Detroit offense has been stagnant this year. He'll look to keep pitching well in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Athletics.

Impact The Tigers committed four total errors in this one, which certainly didn't do Skubal or the three relievers any favors. The lefty now has a losing record but has pitched well overall with a 3.05 ERA and 20 strikeouts across 20.2 innings this season, so wins should come if he gets more run support and some better defense behind him. Skubal will look to even up his record in his next scheduled start Wednesday against an exploitable Pittsburgh lineup.
