Gerson Garabito - Sent to Triple-A The Rangers optioned Garabito to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

Impact With Max Scherzer (shoulder) returning from the injured list to start Saturday's contest against the Mariners, Garabito will end up as the odd man out of a roster spot. The 29-year-old righty owns a 3.86 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 21 innings in the big leagues this season, and he still has a chance to pitch for the Rangers down the stretch if Texas needs a fresh bullpen arm.

Max Scherzer - Activated for start The Rangers reinstated Scherzer (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Saturday versus Seattle.

Impact Shoulder problems have kept Scherzer on the injured list since Aug. 2, but he's been given the go-ahead to return to the Rangers after striking out eight batters over four shutout innings during a rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock last Saturday. He'll be welcomed back by a Mariners offense that has been relatively weak all year but boasts a .769 OPS since the start of September. Gerson Garabito was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Josh Smith - Logs two hits, run in win Smith started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Mariners.

Impact Smith made a sixth consecutive start at shortstop, as the Rangers will be without Corey Seager (hip, hernia) for the rest of the season. Smith should see the bulk of the time at shortstop to finish off what has been his best year in the majors. He's batting .264/.348/.403 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI, nine steals and 61 runs scored over 136 games.

Josh Sborz - Still rehabbing Sborz (shoulder), who began a rehab assignment Aug. 24, restarted the rehab this week after taking an extended break, MLB.com reports.

Impact Sborz made two appearances in four days before shutting down in August. This week, he threw a scoreless inning Tuesday and allowed two runs on a hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning Friday. When healthy, Sborz has delivered a 3.38 ERA over 16 relief innings, but his current stint on the IL is his third due to shoulder-related issues.

In that span, he's batting .288 (17-for-59) with 14 RBI. He's posted a .251/.319/.391 slash line over 120 contests this season, but it looks like he's found more comfort at the plate late in the campaign.

Jacob deGrom - Keeps scoreless line in return DeGrom (elbow) allowed four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 3.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Friday.

Impact DeGrom stretched out to 61 pitches (41 strikes) in a sharp outing for his first major-league action since April of 2023. He'll likely remain on a workload limit to finish out the campaign after throwing no more than four innings in any of his four rehab starts. DeGrom is tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Blue Jays.
