Impact It will be deGrom's first time facing hitters since he underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2023. Assuming it goes well, the right-hander will then progress to a two-inning live batting practice session early next week, which could be the final box he needs to check before being cleared to begin a rehab assignment. DeGrom will need multiple rehab starts before rejoining the Rangers' rotation.

Texas will have a spot in the rotation available for as long as both Jon Gray (groin) and Max Scherzer (shoulder) are on the shelf, but another poor showing Wednesday could nonetheless put Urena at risk of being moved to the bullpen, if not cast off the roster. Long relievers Cody Bradford and Dane Dunning loom as alternatives for the No. 5 starter's spot if Urena can't get the job done.

Tyler Mahle - Out-dueled in 2024 debut Mahle (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Rangers were downed 4-2 by the Astros, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out two.

Impact Making his season debut after completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Mahle tossed an efficient 76 pitches (49 strikes) but had the misfortune of facing Framber Valdez, who took a no-hitter into the ninth inning. Mahle should fill a rotation spot for Texas the rest of the way in 2024, and he should get stretched out further in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Boston.

Corey Seager - Spoils no-hit bid Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros.

Impact Seager spoiled Framber Valdez's no-hit bid with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with his two-run homer. It was Seager's third consecutive game with a home run and his fifth over the last five contests. The shortstop has 24 home runs and 57 RBI through 101 games.

Impact This was the first time the Rangers faced a left-hander since manager Bruce Bochy shifted Semien from leadoff to third against right-handers. The second baseman is 6-for-29 with four walks, two doubles, one home run, three RBI and two runs scored over eight games as the third-place batter.
