Tony Kemp - On bench, could lose regular roleKemp is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
ImpactThe lefty-hitting Kemp will take a seat with southpaw Andrew Heaney on the bump, but Kemp's opportunities to play regularly against right-handed pitching could soon take a hit, as well. With Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) returning from the injured list Sunday, the Athletics have one less infield spot available in the regular lineup versus righties. Since rookie Jordan Diaz has seemingly played his way into a full-time role and because fellow veteran Jace Peterson holds a 122-point advantage in OPS for the season (.607 to .485), Kemp looks like he could find himself as the odd man out of the lineup more often than not.

Mitch Garver - Nearing rehab assignmentManager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Garver (knee) is expected to begin a rehab assignment around May 23, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
ImpactGarver's target date to return from the 10-day injured list was previously mentioned as May 23, but his activation date is now likely to be at least a few days beyond that. The 32-year-old played in just six games before he landed on the shelf with a knee sprain in early April, so he could require a handful of games in the minors before being cleared to rejoin the Rangers.

Travis Jankowski - Unlikely to return when eligibleRangers manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Jankowski (hamstring) will spend more than the minimum 15 days on the injured list, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
ImpactJankowski's placement on the IL due to a right hamstring strain is retroactive to May 8, but Bochy's comments suggest that the Rangers may not be counting on the veteran outfielder making it back before the end of the month. With Corey Seager (hamstring) seemingly on track to return from the IL during the upcoming week and the hot-hitting Ezequiel Duran likely to settle into a regular role in left field or designated hitter as a result, Jankowski may not be in store for steady playing time whenever he's deemed ready to rejoin the Rangers.

Mason Miller - Getting second opinion TuesdayAthletics manager Mark Kotsay said that Miller (elbow) is scheduled to received a second opinion Tuesday in Dallas from Dr. Keith Meister, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chroni...
ImpactMiller was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with elbow inflammation, and the Athletics are hopeful that Meister will confirm the diagnosis when he examines the right-hander's forearm. Even if Miller receives good news, the 24-year-old rookie still looks like a good bet to miss more than the minimum 15 days, given that the Athletics aren't incentivized to rush one of their top pitching prospects back from an arm-related injury. Luis Medina and James Kaprielian entered the Oakland rotation during the past week, and both look as though they could retain starting roles while Miller and Paul Blackburn (finger) are on the shelf.

JJ Bleday - On bench versus southpawBleday is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
ImpactBleday is off to a strong start for Oakland with a 1.008 OPS and three homers in 11 games since being promoted May 3, but he'll take a seat Sunday with lefty Andrew Heaney on the mound for Texas. Brent Rooker will move out to left field while Carlos Perez serves as the designated hitter.
