Receives MiLB deal from Detroit The Tigers signed Nido to a minor-league contract Tuesday.

Impact Nido was released by the Cubs in late August just as he was beginning a rehab assignment following a debridement procedure on his right knee. He should be healthy enough to play now and will give the Tigers a little organizational catching depth for the stretch run.

Cut loose by Cubs The Cubs released Nido (knee) on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Impact Nido was released to make room for Shawn Armstrong on the 40-man roster. After signing on with Chicago in June, Nido slashed .128/.143/.234 with one home run in 50 plate appearances. The 30-year-old catcher should warrant some interest on the open market, though he's currently recovering from a debridgement procedure on his right knee.

Impact Nido is exactly one month removed from a debridgement procedure on his right knee but is ready for game action again. He shouldn't need more than a handful of rehab games before returning. Christian Bethancourt has played well as the Cubs' backup catcher behind Miguel Amaya, but there's probably room for all three guys when rosters expand.
