Impact Bassitt walked a career-high seven batters and failed to complete five innings for the second-consecutive start, allowing single runs in the second, third and fourth innings prior to being pulled with one out and two men on in the fifth. The 35-year-old righty holds a 4.16 ERA and 1.46 WHIP, the first time his ERA has soared above four and his WHIP above 1.24 since 2016. Bassitt is in line to make one more start on the final day of the regular season against the Marlins.

Orelvis Martinez - Returns from suspension, optioned Martinez finished serving his 80-game suspension Monday and was optioned to the Florida Complex League Blue Jays, per MLB's transaction log.
Impact Martinez was handed an 80-game ban in June for PED use and began a rehab assignment Sept. 6, and he'll now head to the FCL following Monday's transaction. He appeared in one game this season for the Blue Jays, picking up a base knock in three at-bats.

Bo Bichette - Meeting with hand specialist Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Bichette (finger) traveled to Arizona this week to meet with a hand specialist, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
Impact Bichette has already been ruled out for the season with a fractured right middle finger, but the consultation with the specialist should help the infielder determine whether or not he'll need surgery to address the injury. Regardless of whether he gets surgery, Bichette should be back to full health in advance of spring training. The 26-year-old is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2025 season and could be a trade candidate this winter, though the Blue Jays may prefer to have Bichette rebuild some value after he posted a career-worst .599 OPS over 336 plate appearances in 2024.

Daulton Varsho - Surgery completed Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that Varsho underwent surgery Monday, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
Impact The Blue Jays haven't provided a timeline for Varsho to resume baseball activities nor provided details regarding the nature of the outfielder's surgery, but the procedure had been expected to address a rotator cuff strain. Before being shut down for the season earlier this month, Varsho hit just .214 and got on base at a .293 clip over 513 plate appearances, but he was a decent source of counting stats (18 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 73 runs and 58 RBI).

Joey Loperfido - Heads to bench vs. righty Loperfido is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact Loperfido had picked up starts in each of the Blue Jays' previous three matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll hit the bench Monday while the Red Sox send righty Tanner Houck to the mound. The newly recalled Jonatan Clase will pick up a start in center field at the expense of Loperfido, who could fade into more of a part-time role in the final week of the regular season while he's in the midst of an extended dry spell at the dish. Since stringing together four consecutive two-hit games from Aug. 20 through 24, Loperfido has slashed .164/.203/.246 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate.

Impact Batting second Sunday and getting another start at shortstop in the absence of Bo Bichette (finger), Clement continued a strong September that has seen him slash .292/.301/.389 in 18 games with a homer, two steals, four RBI and 10 runs. The 28-year-old infielder should retain a regular spot in the lineup over the final week of the season, and he's positioned himself for a prime role in the Blue Jays' 2025 plans.

Ryan Yarbrough - Sharp in bulk relief Sunday Yarbrough came away with a no-decision in Sunday's loss to the Rays, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over four relief innings. He struck out five.
Impact Taking the mound with one out in the second inning after an impressive stint from opener Ryan Burr, Yarbrough tossed 54 pitches (38 strikes) and held Tampa Bay scoreless, only to watch Zach Pop let his inherited runner cross the plate in the sixth. Yarbrough has a 1.98 ERA, 0.59 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings in September across five appearances, but it's not clear if he'll get another scheduled turn as a bulk reliever before the end of the season.
