Daulton Varsho - Headed for shoulder surgery Varsho, who was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a shoulder strain Tuesday, will undergo surgery on his rotator cuff as soon as possible, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Varsho has been played through the injury for an undisclosed period and will miss the final couple weeks of the regular season. Assuming the 28-year-old is able to get the procedure relatively soon, he should have enough recovery time to be healthy for the start of spring training. Varsho had an underwhelming .214/.293/.407 slash line in 136 games this year, though he still provided some value for fantasy managers with 18 homers, 10 stolen bases, 58 RBI and 73 runs.

Steward Berroa - Up from Triple-A The Blue Jays recalled Berroa from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
Impact With Daulton Varsho (shoulder) headed for the injured list, Berroa will rejoin the big-league squad in order to help replenish Toronto's outfield depth. The 25-year-old owns an .825 OPS through 300 plate appearances in the minors, but he's logged just five hits in 24 MLB games. He'll likely be limited to a bench role while with the Jays.

Will Wagner - Placed on 60-day IL The Blue Jays placed Wagner on the 60-day injured list Tuesday due to left knee inflammation.
Impact Wagner's knee injury could help explain why he hasn't played in a game since Friday, and his move to the 60-day IL will officially put an early end to his season. The 26-year-old infielder will finish 2024 with a solid .305/.337/.451 slash line alongside two homers and 11 RBI through 24 games in the majors. In corresponding roster moves, Bo Bichette (calf) was activated from the 10-day IL, and Nick Robertson was claimed off waivers from the Angels (and optioned to Triple-A Buffalo) to fill the open 40-man spot.

Daulton Varsho - Out with shoulder strain The Blue Jays placed Varsho on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Sept. 14, due to a right shoulder strain.
Impact The 28-year-old hasn't seen the field since Sept. 11 due to the shoulder issue, and Toronto finally elected to move him to the injured list Tuesday. Varsho will be eligible to rejoin the active roster Sept. 24, but it's possible the outfielder has already seen his last action of the season with only 12 games left on the schedule. If that's the case, Varsho will end 2024 with a 18 homers, 10 steals, 58 RBI, 73 runs and a .214/.293/.407 slash line in 136 contests.

Bo Bichette - Returns from IL The Blue Jays reinstated Bichette (calf) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Impact Bichette went 4-for-14 with two RBI and a run scored across four games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo. With a .595 OPS, the 25-year-old infielder is enduring his worst season at the plate over his six-year MLB career, but he figures to reclaim his role as Toronto's everyday shortstop now that he's healthy. Will Wagner (knee) was placed on the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Nick Robertson - Claimed by Jays The Blue Jays claimed Robertson off waivers from the Angels on Thursday and was optioned down to Triple-A Buffalo, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Robertson was designated for assignment by the Angels on Sept. 15. The Angels departed with the righty after he allowed 12 earned runs across 13 innings in Triple-A for the organization.

Alan Roden - Power shows up at Triple-A Roden is slashing .316/.404/.509 with nine home runs, eight steals and a 14.3 percent strikeout rate in 68 games for Triple-A Buffalo.
Impact Roden turns 25 this offseason and will likely end up in left field, so he has no margin for error offensively. He has a career .298 average and .407 on-base percentage, but this run at Triple-A represents Roden's top power output (.192 ISO, .509 SLG are career bests) to date. Players with Roden's elite contact skill can sometimes be late bloomers in the power department, and he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man roster as Rule 5 draft protection until next offseason.
