Impact Kiermaier took batting practice on the field ahead of Tuesday's game against Philadelphia, and he said he felt good swinging despite still having eight stitches in his right arm. The 33-year-outfielder is slashing .294/.362/.392 since the All-Star break and will slide back in as Toronto's primary center fielder once he returns from the IL.

Impact The 30-year-old was scratched from Sunday's starting nine due to inflammation in his right middle finger, and he'll sit again Tuesday after Monday's team off day. Impact At last check, Bichette had not yet been running at full speed, but it would appear he's made some nice progress the last few days. The star shortstop is working his way back from right patellar tendinitis, an injury which has cost him all of August. When he does begin a rehab assignment, he shouldn't need more than a few games before rejoining the Blue Jays.

Impact Romano wound up being sidelined just a couple days beyond the minimum 15 with lower-back inflammation. The closer made one scoreless rehab appearance with Triple-A Buffalo to show the Blue Jays he was ready to go. Romano should immediately regain ninth-inning duties for Toronto.

Daulton Varsho - Hits 14th homer, drives in five Varsho went 2-for-5 with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 11-4 win over the Cubs.

Impact It was Varsho's most impactful performance in an otherwise disappointing first season with the Blue Jays. His three-run shot in the second gave the Jays a lead they'd never relinquish. The home run represented only his second since June 17 and it was his first multi-RBI performance since June 2. A .255 BABIP indicates that at some point his bad luck should improve and the Blue Jays are counting on that to be the case as they move into the stretch run.
