Kiké Hernández - Could swing bat FridayRed Sox manager Alex Cora said Hernandez (hip) could resume swinging a bat Friday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
ImpactAfter he was recently transferred to the 60-day injured list, Hernandez won't be eligible to return until the second week of August, but it's unclear if he'll be ready to go by then. The Red Sox likely won't be able to pinpoint a target timeline for Hernandez's return until he's able to resume full baseball activities and head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. His ability to take some swings during the upcoming weekend would at least represent a step in the right direction.

ImpactWacha faced hitters Monday for the first time since landing on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation in early June. The right-hander is scheduled to face hitters once again Saturday before beginning a rehab assignment at some point afterward.

Abraham Almonte - Traded to BostonAlmonte was traded from the Brewers to the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for cash considerations.
ImpactAlmonte signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers in December and performed well at Triple-A Nashville to begin the year, slashing .293/.380/.533 with 11 homers, 42 RBI, 36 runs and a stolen base over 48 games. He'll likely report to Triple-A Worcester for now but will be an option to provide outfield depth for the Red Sox at some point.
