Lenyn Sosa - Won't start ThursdaySosa isn't included in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.
ImpactFresh off his promotion from Double-A Birmingham earlier Thursday, Sosa could be eased into the majors as a reserve option. The 22-year-old is an intriguing prospect who looks ready for a stiffer test after turning in a .933 OPS in 289 plate appearances at Birmingham, but he may have to settle for a utility role initially while manager Tony La Russa turns to a combination of Josh Harrison, Leury Garcia and Jake Burger to handle reps at second base and third base. Neither Harrison (.611 OPS) nor Garcia (.456 OPS) have been especially impressive, however, so Sosa may not have to wait long to get an opportunity.

Reese McGuire - Sits out ThursdayMcGuire is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.
ImpactChicago's catching situation has been tough to pin down of late. After McGuire made three consecutive starts behind the plate from June 12 through 14, Seby Zavala caught each of the team's next three contests. McGuire then caught three of the White Sox's four games since Sunday, but he'll be back on the bench for Thursday's series opener in favor of Zavala. Though McGuire represents the superior defender of the two, Zavala has thus far showed a more potent bat in a limited sample of MLB action.

Luis Robert - Not starting ThursdayRobert (leg) isn't starting Thursday's game against the Orioles.
ImpactRobert exited Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays and was expected to be in Thursday's lineup, but he'll ultimately be on the bench for at least one matchup. The 24-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench during the series opener against Baltimore. Leury Garcia will shift to center field while Josh Harrison starts at second base.

Leury García - Back in lineup ThursdayGarcia (side) will start in center field and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Orioles.
ImpactGarcia is back in the lineup for the first time since June 17 after recently tending to some discomfort in his left side, but he made an appearance off the bench in Wednesday's 9-5 loss to the Blue Jays to erase any concern about a potential trip to the 10-day injured list. Though he's previously made starts at second base, shortstop and in right field this season, Garcia will add a new position to his ledger Thursday while the top two options on the depth chart -- Luis Robert (leg) and Adam Engel (hamstring) -- aren't available. Engel was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday while Robert is day-to-day, so as long as the latter is back in action in a few days, Garcia will then shift his focus back to playing in the infield.

Lenyn Sosa - Call-up made officialSosa's contract was selected from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.
ImpactSosa has been in the midst of a breakout season in Birmingham to begin the season, as he slashed .331/.384/.549 with 14 home runs, 48 RBI and 47 runs over 62 games at the Double-A level this year. Although the 22-year-old has never played above Double-A, he'll be rewarded with a big-league promotion to provide infield depth for the White Sox after Danny Mendick (knee) was placed on the injured list Thursday.

Eloy Jiménez - Hits 60-day IL in procedural moveThe White Sox transferred Jimenez (hamstring) to the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday.
ImpactThursday marks 60 days since Jimenez was initially placed on the IL on April 23 with a strained right hamstring that required surgery, so the transaction doesn't affect his timeline for returning to the 26-man active roster and merely opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Lenyn Sosa, whose contract was purchased from Double-A Birmingham. After his minor-league rehab assignment was paused for two weeks, Jimenez returned to action Tuesday for Triple-A Charlotte and has gone 1-for-8 with four strikeouts while playing on back-to-back days. The White Sox may want to give Jimenez some light exposure to the outfield this weekend before potentially reinstating him from the IL next week.

Gavin Sheets - Returns to big leaguesThe White Sox recalled White from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. He'll start in right field and bat sixth in the series opener with the Orioles.
ImpactWith Danny Mendick (knee) and Adam Engel (hamstring) both being placed on the injured list Thursday, Sheets was summoned from the minors to fill one of the open spots on the 26-man active roster. He was sent down June 10 and produced a .270 average with two homers, seven RBI and six runs over 37 at-bats in nine games with Charlotte. Now that he's back with the big club, the lefty-hitting Sheets could have a line on a strong-side platoon role with five position players (Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez, Yasmani Grandal, Mendick and Engel) residing on the IL.
