Tyler Alexander - Takes no-decision in long reliefAlexander worked 2.2 innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two.
ImpactThough he was responsible for letting in the Blue Jays' only runs through nine innings, Alexander was spared the loss after the Tigers rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the seventh. Alexander was notably deployed as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen behind Jose Urena, who handled a limited workload in his return from a five-plus-week stint on the IL. Detroit also brought back Matthew Boyd from the 60-day IL on Sunday, and Wily Peralta (finger) could be reinstated during the upcoming week, so Alexander may have to settle for a bullpen role moving forward now that the Tigers have more starting options at their disposal.

Kevin Smith - Pops first homerSmith went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and a hit by pitch in Sunday's 2-1 win over Detroit.
ImpactThe 25-year-old went yard in the fourth inning to give Toronto a 2-0 lead. Smith also committed an error in the sixth that ultimately allowed Detroit to get on the board, but starter Jose Berrios was able to limit the damage there. Smith has just three hits in 19 at-bats this season in his first taste of major-league action. He should see regular playing time at third base with Cavan Biggio (elbow) and Santiago Espinal (hip) both on the injured list.

Bo Bichette - Slugs 21st homerBichette went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 2-1 win over Detroit.
ImpactWhile August hasn't been kind to the shortstop, he's now hit safely in four straight games, his longest streak since a six-game stretch in late June and early July. Bichette has maintained a .286/.336/.457 slash line with 21 home runs, 80 RBI, 95 runs scored and 20 stolen bases through 551 plate appearances.

Tim Mayza - Picks up first career saveMayza allowed one hit in 1.1 innings to earn the save in Sunday's 2-1 win over Detroit.
ImpactToronto's regular closer, Jordan Romano, covered two innings to earn the win Saturday, opening the door for Mayza to convert his first major-league save. The 29-year-old southpaw was never in any real danger of giving up the one-run lead. He's pitched to a solid 3.64 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB across 42 innings this year. He's added a 4-2 record, 13 holds and two blown saves, typically operating in high-leverage situations.

José Berríos - Fans 11 in winBerrios (9-7) allowed an unearned run on six hits and struck out 11 in seven innings to earn the win Sunday versus Detroit.
ImpactAfter allowing 13 runs (12 earned) across his last three starts, this was an encouraging bounce-back effort for Berrios, opponent not withstanding. The right-hander gave up his lone run in the sixth inning after an error. He's gone 2-2 in six starts with Toronto since he was acquired from Minnesota at the trade deadline. Berrios has a 3.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 162:40 K:BB across 153 innings overall. He lines up for a home start versus Oakland next weekend.

Matthew Boyd - Yields two runs in returnBoyd (3-7) took the loss Sunday versus Toronto. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in four innings.
ImpactAfter an absence of two-and-a-half months due to triceps tendinitis, Boyd had a middling performance in his return. The two runs he allowed came on solo home runs by Bo Bichette and Kevin Smith, but Detroit offense mustered just one run of support. Boyd threw 71 pitches (44 strikes) in the contests, up from 56 pitches in his final rehab start with Triple-A Toledo. The southpaw has a 3.50 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 61:21 K:BB through 74.2 innings this season. He's projected to make his next start in Cincinnati next weekend.
