Lands with Friars Brooks signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Wednesday.

Impact Brooks struggled in his first 12 games as a big-leaguer, going just 3-for-25 with an RBI and six strikeouts with the Giants last year. However, he slashed .302/.410/.453 with 58 RBI over 407 plate appearance in the minors, which is good enough for the Padres to bring him in as organizational depth at first base.

Losing work to Flores Brooks is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Impact Brooks looked as though he might hold down a strong-side platoon role at first base following his call-up from Triple-A Sacramento on May 28, but he appears to have since faded into a pure backup role behind Wilmer Flores. He'll be out of the lineup for the fifth straight game, with the Giants facing three lefty starters and two righties during that span.

Impact Though he'll take a seat while southpaw Nestor Cortes takes the hill for the Yankees, the lefty-hitting Brooks appears to have settled in as the strong side option of a platoon at first base with the right-handed-hitting Wilmer Flores. Brooks has started in the Giants' last three matchups with righties and has gone 1-for-6 with two walks and two runs in four games overall since he was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday following LaMonte Wade's (hamstring) placement on the injured list.

Impact Brooks will make his MLB debut Tuesday for the Giants against the Phillies as the first baseman, batting ninth. In Triple-A Sacramento this season, he has slashed .308/.426/.462 with four home runs across 177 plate appearances in 43 games. The promotion coincides with LaMonte Wade being placed on the injured list and Ryan McKenna being designated for assignment.
