Rejoining big-league club The Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Impact With the struggling CJ Abrams heading down to the minors for the final week-plus of the season, Lipscomb will return to Washington in order to replenish the Nats' infield depth. The 24-year-old owns just a .515 OPS through 204 plate appearances in the big leagues this season, and he will almost certainly be limited to a bench role while Nasim Nunez takes over for Abrams at shortstop.

Sent down to Rochester The Nationals optioned Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

Impact After being recalled by the Nationals on July 6, Lipscomb slowly saw his playing time dwindle as he struggled to a .152/.211/.182 slash line with a 23.6 percent strikeout rate across 71 plate appearances. With Ildemaro Vargas establishing a regular role at the hot corner, Lipscomb will go back down to Rochester, where he will have an everyday role at third base. Impact Lipscomb will officially get his first look in the majors after Nick Senzel (thumb) landed on the injured list Saturday. The 23-year-old prospect was only able to reach Double-A last season, but a .400/.455/.540 slash line during spring training makes it reasonable to think he can find early success in the majors. Lipscomb is capable of playing across the infield but will likely play most often at third base as Senzel's replacement.
