Excels in first live BP Glasnow was impressive during his first time facing hitters this spring Wednesday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Glasnow threw 29 pitches overall to Ji-Man Choi, Joey Wendle, Yandy Diaz, Austin Meadows, Manuel Margot and Willy Adames, taking a simulated inning break after the first three batters. Glasnow came away particularly pleased with his comfort level and grip when deploying the new cutter/slider he's been working on, and he's looking forward to continuing to tweak it as spring training progresses. Meanwhile, manager Kevin Cash also noted how good the big right-hander's tempo and velocity were during the session, emphasizing Glasnow looked as good as he had during the postseason.

Working on new pitch Glasnow has been working on a new pitch which he described as a slider or cutter, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Glasnow has almost exclusively used a fastball and a curveball over the last two seasons, throwing the two pitches over 95 percent of the time in both years while turning to his changeup very infrequently. He's turned into a very strong pitcher using mainly just those two offerings, but another option to keep hitters guessing could elevate him to a new level. Of course, the mere fact that Glasnow is working on the pitch doesn't imply that it will turn into a high-quality weapon.

Impact As per usual, the hard-throwing righty was able to miss bats at a decent clip with 16 swinging strikes among his 102 pitches, but command was once again an issue. That has been a recurring theme for Glasnow this postseason, as he's given up a home run in all but one of his six outings during the Rays' playoff run. Joc Pederson and Max Muncy took Glasnow deep Sunday, with the later long ball providing Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles bullpen all the cushion they would need. Should the Rays extend the series to a Game 7 on Wednesday, Glasnow could be available to pitch an inning or two out of the bullpen.
