Cut loose by Phillies Velasquez (finger) was released by the Phillies on Tuesday.
Impact Velasquez was designated for assignment by Philadelphia over the weekend, and he's now been let go by the organization. The 29-year-old posted a 5.95 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 85:45 K:BB over 81.2 innings this season before landing on the injured list in early August with a right middle finger blister.

Preparing for rehab assignment Velasquez (finger) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Low-A Clearwater on Tuesday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Impact Velasquez, who has been on the injured list since Aug. 2 due to a blister on his right middle finger, was cleared to head out on the rehab assignment after he threw a live bullpen session Sunday without discomfort. Even though the back end of the rotation remains unsettled while Zach Eflin (kneecap) remains on the IL, the Phillies aren't expect to revisit using Velasquez in a starting role upon his return.
