Juan Soto - Turns down extension offer Soto reportedly turned down a 13-year, $350 million contract extension from the Nationals prior to the start of the MLB lockout in December, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports. Impact Though Soto's annual salary eclipsed $1 million for the first time in 2021 after he became arbitration eligible, the 23-year-old outfielder doesn't look to be in any major rush to secure some long-term financial security. After finishing second in the NL MVP balloting in 2021 and putting together a 156 wRC+ through his first four years in the majors, Soto presumably has his sights set on an extension north of $400 million. Soto is under club control for three more seasons, so while his representatives and the Nationals may revisit extension talks once the lockout ends, there isn't an immediate rush for either side to come to terms on an extension. Soto shapes up as a worthy top-five selection in fantasy drafts in 2022 and likely for multiple years to come.
