Lane Thomas - Pops second homer Thomas went 3-for-8 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI across both games of Saturday's doubleheader split with the Mets.

Impact The 26-year-old played center field and hit leadoff in both contests, and he opened the nightcap by launching his second homer of the season off Tylor Megill. Thomas has a six-game hitting streak going, and since joining the Nats in mid-August he's slashing an impressive .323/.403/.532 with two homers, one steal, nine RBI and 10 runs in 18 games. Expect him to remain the starting center fielder for the rest of September as he tries to establish himself as a part of the future for his new club, something he never got a chance to do in St. Louis.

Impact Making his first appearance with the Nats and seeing his first MLB action since a handful of relief innings with the Orioles in 2019, Rogers tossed 57 of 87 pitches for strikes and did just enough to secure his second career big-league win. The southpaw posted decent numbers after signing with Triple-A Rochester in early June, and given the unsettled nature of the Washington rotation behind Josiah Gray and Patrick Corbin, Rogers could well earn more starts down the stretch.

Impact The young third baseman has caught fire over the last week, batting .348 (8-for-23) over his last six games with two homers, four RBI and six runs. The hot streak has pushed Kieboom's slash line on the year up to .248/.344/.419, and a big September would go a long way toward locking him into the starting job at the hot corner for 2022 and beyond.

Andrew Stevenson - Productive in matinee Stevenson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI during an 11-9 loss to the Mets in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Impact The 27-year-old didn't even start the matinee, but after Erick Fedde got chased early, Stevenson entered the game as part of a double switch in the fourth inning and helped fuel a comeback from a 9-0 deficit, sending the game to extra innings with a two-run blast off Seth Lugo in the seventh. He then got the start in left field in the nightcap and went 1-for-3. Until Saturday. Stevenson had seen little playing time since taking Victor Robles' spot on the big-league roster at the end of August, but his efforts may have earned him a bigger role in the outfield mix over the final weeks.

Kyle Finnegan - Mixed results in twin bill Finnegan (4-6) took the loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets but then recorded his seventh save of the season in the second game.

Impact The Nats were in a 9-0 hole at one point in the matinee but managed to send the game to extra innings with a late rally, only for Finnegan to serve up a game-winning two-run shot to Francisco Lindor in the top of the ninth. The right-hander then bounced back in the nightcap, walking one and striking out two in a scoreless seventh inning to nail down a 4-3 win. Finnegan has fallen into the closer role for Washington but has mostly held up in high-leverage spots, posting a 1.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB through 12 innings since the beginning of August while converting five of his six save chances.

Josh Rogers - Starting nightcap against Mets Rogers will start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact Added to the 40-man roster and designated as the 29th man for the twin bill, Rogers will take the ball for his first big-league start since 2018. The lefty packs very little in terms of a strikeout punch (63 strikeouts in 90.1 innings at Triple-A this season), but he also doesn't hurt himself with walks. Rogers managed a 7-3 record, 3.70 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with Triple-A Rochester after being cut loose by the Orioles at the end of May.

Impact Kyle McGowin (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for Rogers, who will be the designated 29th man for the Nationals' twin bill against the Mets on Saturday. Rogers, a 27-year-old southpaw, struggled to a 7.79 ERA at Triple-A Norfolk before being released by Orioles at the end of May. He's turned it around since joining Rochester, posting a 3.70 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts), albeit with only 49 strikeouts in 73 innings.

Impact Facing the Mets for the third time in four starts since joining the Nats' rotation, Nolin didn't have much trouble navigating through the New York lineup despite the familiarity. The journeyman southpaw tossed 63 of 102 pitches for strikes but was in line for his third loss of the year until the Washington offense finally showed a flicker of life against Edwin Diaz in the ninth inning.
