Patrick Corbin - Dominant against the Brewers Corbin (7-12) allowed one run on three hits while striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings in a win over the Brewers on Friday.

Impact Corbin made quick work of the Brewer hitters as he fired off six shutout innings before Avisail Garcia eventually got to him with a solo homer with one out in the seventh. The 31-year-old southpaw's night ended there with an admirable performance after enduring so many struggles throughout the season. Corbin had entered Friday with six straight outings allowing four runs or more, so it was encouraging to see him have a bounceback performance against a first-place team. He now owns a 5.82 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 107:41 K:BB over 133 innings and is set up for a favorable matchup against the Marlins next week.

Kyle Finnegan - Earns save No. 5 Finnegan walked and struck out a batter while throwing a scoreless ninth frame to pick up his fifth save of the year in a 4-1 win over the Brewers on Friday.

Impact Finnegan had to work around a leadoff walk and was able to retire the next three batters he faced to secure the save. The 29-year-old has picked up all five of his saves since July 29 and owns a 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB over 9.2 innings since then. Alex Avila - Runs on field Avila (calves) was spotted running on the field prior to Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays, and he could throw to the bases during a workout Friday, the Associated Press reports.

Impact Avila hasn't played for the Nationals since July 1 due to bilateral calf strains, but the 34-year-old looks like he's starting to ramp up again. Because of the length of his absence, Avila will likely require a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list, and the Nationals may be inclined to wait until rosters expand to 28 men Sept. 1 to bring the veteran backstop back. With the 52-68 Nationals focused on developing younger players at this stage of the season, Tres Barrera and Riley Adams could continue to share most of the work behind the dish even after Avila returns to the mix.
