Josh Bell - Getting work in outfield Bell got the start in right field during Sunday's loss to Atlanta, going 1-for-5.

Impact With lefty Max Fried on the mound for the opposition, the Nats found a way to get both Ryan Zimmerman and the switch-hitting Bell into the lineup. The 28-year-old hadn't seen work in the outfield since he was a rookie in 2016, and he should see most of his action over the final weeks of the season at his usual first base, but Bell could eventually wind up with some extra position flex. On the year, he's batting .249 with 19 homers and 60 RBI through 96 games.

Kyle McGowin - Starts up rehab assignment McGowin (biceps) made a rehab appearance for Triple-A Rochester on Sunday, striking out two over a perfect inning.

Impact McGowin has been on the shelf since July 11 with right biceps tendinitis. He'll likely make at least a couple more rehab appearances for Rochester before rejoining the Washington bullpen.

Ryan Zimmerman - Three hits, two RBI in loss Zimmerman went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in Sunday's 5-4 loss to Atlanta.

Impact The 36-year-old played a key role in Washington's comeback effort, knocking an RBI single in the seventh inning and an RBI double in the ninth. Zimmerman was left aboard after the latter when Josh Bell grounded out to end the game. Sunday was Zimmerman's first three-hit game since May 22. He's seen less than a platoon role, essentially serving as Bell's backup most of the time lately. Zimmerman has a mediocre .245 batting average with a .760 OPS, 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 21 runs scored and 11 doubles through 203 plate appearances.

Impact The 32-year-old gave up two-run home runs to Ozzie Albies and Adam Duvall in the contest, the latter ultimately enough to saddle him with a loss. Corbin has now allowed at least four runs in five straight starts while yielding nine homers in that span. He has an uninspiring 5.83 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 95:39 K:BB through 122 innings across 22 starts. The southpaw is projected to make his next start at home in a rematch with Atlanta next weekend.

Juan Soto - Not starting Sunday Soto (knee) will remain out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact Though he missed out on a second start in a row in Saturday's 3-2 win, Soto checked into the contest as a pinch hitter and walked in his lone plate appearance. While Soto's usage off the bench created some hope he might start Sunday, manager Dave Martinez said the star outfielder still feels a "twinge" in his right knee while running, so the Nationals are going to hold him out for another day. Josh Bell will pick up a start in right field for Soto, who hopes to rejoin the lineup Tuesday against the Mets following Monday's team off day.

Impact The backstop was given the start at catcher despite entering the contest with only two hits in 33 at-bats this season. Adams was quiet in his first three plate appearances, but he produced the biggest hit of his young career when he drilled a two-run shot off Atlanta closer Will Smith to turn a one-run deficit into a one-run lead and an eventual victory. The long ball was the first of his big-league career and also accounted for his first two runs batted in.

Impact The right-hander blew his previous save chance in ugly fashion, but he was right back on the bump with Washington protecting a one-run lead in the ninth inning Saturday. Finnegan had no problem taking care of business, retiring the side in order on just 12 pitches. The strong outing should strengthen his stranglehold on the closer job for the Nationals. Finnegan has three saves and one win in addition to the blown save over his past five appearances.

Josiah Gray - Fans 10 batters Saturday Gray struck out 10 batters over five innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Saturday. He surrendered two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks.

Impact In the best outing of his young career, Gray induced 20 swinging strikes in just five frames and racked up a career-high 10 punchouts. He allowed a solo homer to Jorge Soler in the first inning but was otherwise difficult to score upon, with the only other run against him coming as a result of an error in the third frame. The right-hander has looked superb in his first two starts with Washington, allowing a total of two earned runs over a combined 10 innings. He's tentatively lined up to face the Braves again -- this time at home -- next Friday.
