Brad Hand - Dealt third straight loss Hand (5-5) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk while striking out the only batter he retired as he took the loss versus Philadelphia on Monday.
Impact Monday marked Hand's third straight loss and second consecutive blown save. The southpaw allowed a double to Jean Segura and walked Bryce Harper before Andrew McCutchen hit a walkoff home run. Hand is now 20-for-25 in save chances with a 3.67 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 41:18 K:BB through 41.2 innings. If his struggles continue much longer, Daniel Hudson could begin to work his way into a share of the closer role. Hudson allowed two hits in a scoreless inning to earn his 15th hold Monday before Hand's meltdown.

Impact Ross had been out with elbow inflammation since July 7, but he was effective Monday. The right-hander threw 72 pitches (44 strikes) and didn't have his best command, but Philadelphia was unable to punish him for it. He had completed six innings in five of six starts prior to his stint on the injured list. For the year, Ross owns a 3.80 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 95:30 K:BB through 92.1 innings. He lines up for a home start versus the Cubs this weekend.

Max Scherzer - Tosses 40 pitches Monday Scherzer (triceps) threw a successful 40-pitch bullpen session Monday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Scherzer was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday in Baltimore due to right triceps discomfort, but he's now been able to throw on back-to-back days. Although the right-hander was pleased with his results in Monday's bullpen session, he said that he has to wait to see how his tricep feels after a few hours before he has a better idea of his status.
