Yan Gomes - Exits with oblique issue Gomes was removed from Friday's game in San Francisco after he felt a pinch in his left oblique, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact The catcher felt something when throwing a warmup pitch back to Paolo Espino before the second inning. Gomes, who will be re-evaluated Saturday, should be considered day-to-day until the team provides an update on his condition.

Andrew Stevenson - Activated, optioned to Triple-A The Nationals reinstated Stevenson (oblique) from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact An oblique strain had sidelined Stevenson since June 18, before which he hit .227 with two homers and 10 RBI in 97 at-bats. The need for Stevenson in D.C. is minimal now that Alcides Escobar is an everyday second baseman for the Nationals and Josh Harrison has settled into left field, so he'll instead go to Triple-A. Given his position in the organization, though, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Stevenson with the Nationals again at some point in 2021.

Jordy Mercer - Runs bases Friday Mercer (quadriceps) did some base running Friday for the first time since suffering the right quad strain, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Mercer landed on the injured list July 2 and while he's eligible to return Sunday in San Francisco, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Nationals wait until after the All-Star break and give him some extra recovery time. Once active, Mercer figures to have a decreased role due to Alcides Escobar's arrival and offensive success.

Impact The 31-year-old opted out of his minor-league deal with the Yankees last weekend and didn't take long to join a new organization. Dietrich's deal with the Nationals is also believed to be a minor-league pact. He hit .215/.413/.393 with five homers and a 32.2 percent strikeout rate in 143 place appearances at Triple-A before parting ways with New York.

Juan Soto - On base four more times Soto went 2-for-3 with two runs and two walks as Washington fell 9-8 to San Diego on Thursday.
Impact Soto singled and scored in the first and third innings and later walked in both the seventh and ninth to reach base four times for the second straight game. Over his last three games, Soto is 6-for-10 with two home runs, six runs, four RBI and four walks and has raised his season slash line to .286/.408/.454.

Trea Turner - Two homers, stolen base Turner went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs, three RBI and a stolen base in a 9-8 loss to the Padres on Thursday.
Impact Turner smacked a solo home run in the first, singled, stole second and scored in the third and clubbed a two-run shot to center in the fourth to give Washington an early 8-0 lead.
