Joe Ross - Moves to 60-day ILThe Nationals transferred Ross (elbow) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
ImpactWashington already shut Ross down for the season earlier this month when he was diagnosed with a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow, so the transaction was merely made to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver pickup Mike Ford. Ross is expected to avoid the second Tommy John surgery of his career and will treat the elbow injury through rest and rehab throughout the winter. The Nationals are hopeful that he'll be back to full strength for the start of spring training.

Mike Ford - Claimed by NatsThe Nationals claimed Ford off waivers from the Rays on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ImpactWashington will likely stash the 29-year-old at Triple-A for at least the next week before potentially promoting him to the big club when rosters expand to 28 men Sept. 1. After submitting a 134 wRC+ across 163 plate appearances with the Yankees as a rookie in 2019 when injuries opened up playing time at first base and designated hitter, Ford has struggled to replicate that success over multiple stints at the big-league level in the past two seasons (.134/.250/.276 slash line in 156 collective PAs). With Josh Bell set to enter his final year of arbitration in 2022 and Ryan Zimmerman bound for free agency (and perhaps retirement) this winter, Ford will at the very least improve the organization's depth at first base heading into next season.

Sean Nolin - Coughs up three runsNolin (0-2) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over four innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against Milwaukee.
ImpactNolin's rough afternoon started right out of the gate with Kolten Wong taking him deep for a leadoff homer on Nolin's second pitch of the game. The 31-year-old southpaw then gave up a two-run triple to Wong in the fourth. In his two big-league appearances this season, Nolin's been tagged with seven runs in as many innings while taking a loss in both. For now, it's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.
