Israel Pineda - Picks up hand injuryPineda will undergo X-rays after being struck by a pitch on the hand in Saturday's spring game, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
ImpactThe tests figure to reveal whether or not Pineda will miss any time with the injury. His status will be updated again when more information is released.

Max Scherzer - Tagged for seven unearned FridayScherzer gave up seven unearned runs in 2.2 innings during Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, allowing five hits and striking out one.
ImpactThe veteran right-hander was having a little fun trying out different strategies to exploit the new pitch clock and use it to his advantage by messing up hitters' timing, but his experiments back-fired in the third inning when he got charged with a balk, and some shaky defense by Luis Guillorme at shortstop contributed to an eight-run frame for Washington. This outing will be long forgotten by the time Opening Day rolls around, and Scherzer's 6:0 K:BB through his first 4.2 spring innings is a far better indicator of where he is in his preparations for the regular season.

Trevor Williams - Solid start to springWilliams worked two scoreless innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets, allowing one hit while striking out two without walking a batter.
ImpactThe veteran right-hander threw 20 of 23 pitches for strikes in his second outing of the spring. Williams hasn't given up a run yet through three Grapefruit League innings, and with Stephen Strasburg (ribs) lacking any kind of timetable for his return, he's set to begin the season in the Nationals' rotation. Williams posted good numbers (3.21 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 8.4 K/9) in 2022 in a swingman role for the Mets, but he'll be a fantasy risk as a full-time starter on what's expected to be a poor team engaged in a rebuild.

Luis García - Slugs first spring homerGarcia went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.
ImpactHis first homer of the spring wasn't a cheap one -- Garcia turned on a Max Scherzer fastball up in the zone in the third inning and drove it over the right-field wall. Garcia is coming off a mediocre season in the majors, but he's still only 22 years old and slashed .308/.366/.519 in 45 games for Triple-A Rochester in 2022. He could be poised for a big step forward this year.

Derek Hill - Nursing hamstring strainHill (hamstring) has a Grade 1-2 strain in his right hamstring, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ImpactManager Davey Martinez gave no timetable for Hill's return, but it's safe to assume the outfielder will miss at least a few weeks. Hill might have been a long shot to make the roster anyway, considering his .229/.270/.289 slash line in 92 plate appearances for Detroit last season, and this injury significantly hurts his chances.
