Roddery Muñoz - Joins WashingtonWashington claimed Munoz off waivers from Atlanta on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester.
ImpactBefore designating Munoz for assignment last week, Atlanta appeared to have abandoned the idea of developing the right-hander as a starter, as he was deployed in relief in all but four of his 22 appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett, Double-A Mississippi and the rookie-level Florida Complex League this season while pitching to a 3.89 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 40:27 K:BB across 39.1 innings. The 23-year-old boasts a mid-90s fastball and a plus slider, and that two-pitch mix could be enough for him to emerge as a useful relief prospect down the road. Though he'll stay at the Triple-A level with his new organization, Munoz should at least have an easier pathway to reaching the big leagues with Washington.

Corey Dickerson - Idle versus southpawDickerson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ImpactThough he'll be taking a seat Monday with southpaw Drew Smyly on the bump for Chicago, the lefty-hitting Dickerson will likely start the remaining two games of the series with the Cubs, who will bring right-handers Jameson Taillon and Kyle Hendricks to the hill Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Dickerson's platoon mate, Stone Garrett, will replace him in left field Monday.

Jeimer Candelario - Set to start MondayCandelario (thumb) will start at third base and bat third Monday against the Cubs, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ImpactCandelario was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Cardinals when his thumb bothered him in pregame warmups, but he looks on track to give it a go Monday. If Candelario's thumb is still presenting complications in the field leading up to the 8:05 p.m. ET opening pitch, the Nationals could turn to Ildemaro Vargas to spell him at third base.

Ryan Tepera - Joins St. LouisTepera signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ImpactTepera was released by the Angels last month after holding a 7.27 ERA in 10 appearances this season, but he got back on track after inking a minor-league deal with the Rangers, tossing eight scoreless frames with 11 strikeouts. The veteran reliever will fill a middle relief role in St. Louis.

Patrick Corbin - Activated from paternity listCorbin (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ImpactCorbin will join the Nationals in Chicago ahead of their series with the Cubs and he's currently projected to start Wednesday's series finale. In order to make a spot on the major-league roster for the left-hander, Joan Adon was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Monday.

Tyler O'Neill - Remains on IL, for nowO'Neill (back) won't be activated from the 60-day injured list Monday, but he's hopeful to be reinstated prior to Tuesday's game against the Marlins, John Denton of MLB.com reports...
ImpactThough the Cardinals opened up a spot on the 40-man roster earlier Monday by designating reliever Genesis Cabrera for assignment, O'Neill won't immediately fill the opening. O'Neill's delayed activation isn't the result of a setback in his recovery from the back issue that has kept him out since early May, however, as he rejoined the big club in St. Louis following an eight-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis. Assuming O'Neill is back in the fold Tuesday, he could be headed for a near-everyday role in the outfield while Tommy Edman (wrist) is on the shelf.

Joe La Sorsa - Back in big leaguesLa Sorsa was called up from Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ImpactLa Sorsa was sent down to Rochester on July 7, but he'll rejoin Washington's bullpen ahead of the team's three-game series against the Cubs on the road. The left-hander will replace Hunter Harvey (forearm) on the Nationals' major-league roster after Harvey was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday. La Sorsa has produced a bloated 18.00 ERA and 3.25 WHIP with four strikeouts over four innings in five relief appearances with Washington this season.
