Out of lineup vs. lefty Brennan is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Impact Since returning from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Brennan seems to have taken back a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching, but the Guardians will continue to shield the lefty-hitting outfielder from southpaws. Jhonkensy Noel will get the nod in right field in place of Brennan on Monday while the Cubs send lefty Shota Imanaga to the bump.

Impact Brennan's last stint in the majors saw him go 0-for-20 over nine contests from July 11-27. This time around has already gone better. Brennan was called up to replace Angel Martinez on the Guardians' roster, and there's a path to at least a strong-side platoon role for Brennan in right field, a position he'll likely share with Jhonkensy Noel while Lane Thomas moves over to center. Impact He's taking the roster spot vacated by Angel Martinez, who has been optioned back to Columbus. Brennan posted a .992 OPS in nine games with Columbus after being sent down late last month. He could see some action in right field versus righties if the Guardians elect to use Lane Thomas in center more often.

Impact It's the corresponding transaction as the Guardians add new trade acquisition Lane Thomas to the roster. Brennan easily leads the Guardians with 50 starts in right field this season, but that playing time is now slated to go to Thomas. The 26-year-old Brennan is slashing just .233/.291/.379 this season.

Optioned to make room for Thomas The Guardians optioned Brennan to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Impact Brennan was sent to the minors as the corresponding transaction for the addition of trade-deadline pickup Lane Thomas to the roster. He easily leads the Guardians with 50 starts in right field this season, but Brennan's playing time is now slated to go to Thomas. The 26-year-old Brennan is slashing just .233/.291/.379 over 247 plate appearances this season.
