Surrenders four versus Royals Kikuchi got a no-decision in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Kansas City, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings.

Impact Through five innings, Kikuchi faced 16 batters and allowed just two baserunners, but he put the first four Royals on base in the sixth and was removed with only 65 pitches. Reliever Joe Smith entered and served up a Salvador Perez grand slam to leave the 30-year-old with an ugly line for the game. Since representing Seattle in the All-Star Game, Kikuchi has struggled to a 6.46 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in eight second half starts.

Lit up for seven runs Kikuchi (7-7) allowed seven runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over just 2.2 innings in a loss to the Astros on Friday.

Impact Kikuchi was hammered early and often Friday, allowing multiple runs in all three innings he pitched before being pulled. Five of the seven runs he gave up came off three long balls, the first time he's let up more than two homers in an outing this year. The 30-year-old southpaw has had horrible success against the Astros this year. In four games against the division rivals, Kikuchi is 1-2 with a 6.23 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 19:10 K:BB. Fortunately, he'll have a softer matchup next week against the Royals as he looks to get back on track.

Impact The southpaw fired 59 of 92 pitches for strikes en route to his 13th quality start of the season and first win in over a month. He kept the Rays off-balance most of the night, and after serving up a leadoff homer to Randy Arozarena in the bottom of the first inning, Kikuchi gave up no further extra-base hits. He'll carry a 3.89 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 129:40 K:BB through 120.1 innings into his next outing.
