Settles for fifth at Kansas Hamlin finished fifth at the AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. Impact Hamlin looked to have the best car for much of the day, especially on the long run. It paid off in stage one where Hamlin won his third stage of the year. Despite several issues on pit road, Hamlin and team were able to overcome it and get him in clean air late in the race with good strategy. He held off several hard charges from Chris Buescher, but was told he needed to save gas to make it to the end. A late caution saved Hamlin from falling into the clutches of a charging Martin Truex Jr. The No. 11 team got Hamlin out first from pit road with two tires for the GWC restart. Unfortunately, the No. 11 car struggled to take off on restarts all day and it bit Hamlin when Kyle Larson took him three wide and he quickly fell back to fifth place. Hamlin has three wins this year, but could have had a couple more if things had fell his way. At least this time, they were able to get a good finish when they didn't score the checkered flag. Hamlin sits fourth in the standings and will look to make up ground going to arguably his best race track in Darlington next week.
