Falling to Rear at Daytona NASCAR announced the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Truex Jr. will drop to the rear of the field for Sunday's Daytona 500 due to a radiator/oil cooler change.
Impact Considering that Truex had only qualified 26th on the grid, this isn't too bad of a penalty. The team needed to make the change of components, so it was an easy decision. Truex will fall to the rear of the Daytona 500 field Sunday for the green flag. He will join seven other drivers who are also falling to the rear for various reasons. Many of which are the result of going into backup cars after damage incurred in Thursday night's Duel races.

The team announced Wednesday that they have reached an agreement with the driver of the team's No. 19 Toyota. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but it is thought to be a multi-year deal. Impact It was a most eventful night for the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 team at Daytona. Truex started deep in the field and raced to the lead by lap 14. He would lead the next two circuits of the Daytona road course. Truex would be racing for the lead on lap 29 when disaster struck. He lost control of his Toyota on the exit of the backstretch bus stop. Truex would spin and slam hard into the outside wall. The damage to the No. 19 Toyota would be quite extensive, and Truex would be finished for the night.
