Impact Chastain would orchestrate a magnificent performance Sunday at the Austin road circuit. He came from 16th on the starting grid to race his way into the Top 10. Chastain would take the lead for the first time on lap 33 and be a dominant force from that point onward. A late caution would set up NASCAR overtime and a wild, multi-driver battle for the victory. Chastain would out-duel AJ Allmendinger and Alex Bowman on the last lap to capture the win at COTA. It was his first-career Cup Series victory in his 121st start.

Practice Crash Chastain crashed in Happy Hour practice for the WISE Power 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway Saturday.

Impact The driver of the No. 1 Chevrolet lost control on the opening lap of the lone practice session. Chastain would crash hard into the outside wall and utterly destroy his machine. The good news is that he was evaluated and released from the infield care center. The bad news is that Chastain will not make a qualifying attempt and will revert to a backup car for Sunday's race. He'll start from the rear of the field in the WISE Power 400.
