Cup racing full-time in 2023 for JGR Joe Gibbs Racing announced on Tuesday that Gibbs will drive the No. 54 Toyota Camry full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series next season. Impact It was really just a matter of time before this news became official. With the departure of Kyle Busch to Richard Childress Racing, there was a clear gap that needed to be filled in the JGR Cup stable in 2023. The surprising news is that the team will not run the No. 18 car next season that has been run full-time by the team since their inception back in 1992, and instead use the No. 54 that Gibbs won 11 races in over the last two years, including the 2022 Xfinity Series title. JGR is also bringing up Chris Gayle to be Gibbs' crew chief in the Cup Series. Gibbs got lots of good experience the second half of 2022 in the Cup Series when he filled in at 23XI Racing after Kurt Busch suffered a concussion.
