Efficient scoring effort vs. Miami Johnson logged 21 points (8-9 FG, 4-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five rebounds, four assists and one steal over 17 minutes in Wednesday's 120-111 preseason loss to the Heat. Impact Johnson was Atlanta's leading scorer Wednesday and the second-leading scorer for the game behind Jimmy Butler (24). Johnson, the Hawks' first-round pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, took on an expanded role during the 2023-24 regular season, and across 56 games (52 starts) he averaged 16.0 points on 51.1 percent shooting, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.8 blocks over 33.7 minutes per contest. Johnson is primed to take on a bigger role this season alongside Trae Young and No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher (rest) after Dejounte Murray was traded to the Pelicans in late June.
