How optimistic should Nets fans feel after Ben Simmons' airball? | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Jrue Holiday - Logs 35 minutes in preseason finaleHoliday totaled 20 points (8-15 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds and four assists over 35 minutes in a preseason loss to the Nets on Wednesday.
ImpactHoliday put together an efficient shooting line and finished second on Milwaukee with 20 points, but his performance was tempered a bit by seven turnovers. Still, it was promising to see him ramp up to an exhibition-high 35 minutes after resting in Milwaukee's previous preseason game. Holiday averaged 12.2 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in four preseason games, and his next appearance on the court will be for next Thursday's regular-season opener on the road against the 76ers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo - Finishes preseason with big effortAntetokounmpo racked up 24 points (6-21 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 12-15 FT), 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals over 32 minutes in a loss to Brooklyn on Wednesday.
ImpactThough he wasn't efficient from the field0, Antetokounmpo converted 12 of 15 free-throw tries en route to a game-high 24 points. The All-Star forward also tied for the team lead with four assists and three steals in an all-around strong performance. Antetokounmpo played in only two games during the exhibition slate as Milwaukee opted to give him plenty of rest, but he'll be ready to go for the regular-season opener in Philadelphia next Thursday.

Nic Claxton - Impressive in preseason winClaxton tallied 16 points (7-8 FG, 2-6 FT), nine rebounds, one assists, three steals and three blocked shot over 26 minutes in a win over the Bucks on Wednesday.
ImpactClaxton struggled at the charity stripe but was very efficient from the field, missing only one of eight shots. He was just as effective on the defensive end, racking up three steals and three blocks. For good measure, Claxton crashed the boards, and four of his rebounds were on the offensive end. The fourth-year center could be a solid source of rebounds and blocks this season, as he's expected to be a full-time starter for the first time in his career.

Ben Simmons - Hands out 10 assists in winSimmons produced seven points (3-5 FG, 1-4 FT), 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals over 28 minutes in Wednesday's preseason victory against Milwaukee.
ImpactSimmons' performance was right in line with what we've come to expect from him -- he struggled from the free-throw line and took a backseat as a scorer but put up big numbers as a rebounder and passer, leading the team with 10 assists and finishing second with eight rebounds. Through three exhibition contests, the Australian guard is averaging 5.7 points, 7.3 boards, 6.3 dimes and 1.3 steals across 24.3 minutes. In fantasy leagues, his ability to put up numbers across multiple categories is balanced by a complete absence of three-point shooting and a poor percentage from the charity stripe.

Kyrie Irving - Paces Nets with 23 points WednesdayIrving played 33 minutes and recorded 23 points (8-19 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in a 107-97 preseason win over the Bucks on Wednesday.
ImpactIt was just his second game of the exhibition slate, but Irving looked to be near regular-season form, posting team highs with 33 minutes and 23 points. The veteran guard took a backseat in the assists department to Ben Simmons, who dished 10 dimes to Irving's four, which could be a frequent occurrence this season. Still, Irving should be a valuable fantasy asset given his ability to put up big numbers across the board and especially as a scorer and three-point shooter.

Kevin Durant - Plays 31 minutes in preseason winDurant recorded 19 points (7-17 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), eight assists, three rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot across 31 minutes Wednesday in a win over Milwaukee.
ImpactDurant ramped up to 31 minutes -- his most so far in the preseason -- in the Nets' third exhibition game, and he finished second on the team in both scoring and assists. The All-Star forward had his worst shooting game of the exhibition slate thus far, but he's still holding a 51.4 percent conversion rate overall. Durant has also averaged 18.0 points, 4.3 dimes, 3.7 boards, 1.3 three-pointers, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks across three contests.
