Minutes, efficiency drop Monday Hernangomez moved to the bench and finished with seven points (2-12 FG, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes Monday in the Pelicans' 93-90 loss to the Cavaliers. Impact With Jonas Valanciunas (illness) returning from a three-game absence, Hernangomez's move to the second unit was inevitable. The Pelicans' plans for the backup center role weren't immediately clear heading into Monday, but with head coach Willie Green electing to deploy Jaxson Hayes as the team's starting power forward to counter the Cavs' ultra-big frontcourt, Hernangomez had the No. 2 center role all to himself. While he reached double-digit boards for the third time in four games despite a steep drop in minutes, Hernangomez's inefficient shooting prevented him from collecting another double-double. Considering Hernangomez hadn't been part of the rotation prior to Valanciunas' absence, it wouldn't be a major surprise if Hayes reclaimed the backup center role if he doesn't become a fixture in the starting five.
