Still not cleared for contact Coach Willie Green said Friday that Jones (shoulder) is back on the court but is still not doing any contact practice, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.

Impact Jones hasn't played since Oct. 29 due to a small low-grade partial thickness tear in his rotator cuff. While Jones' initial timetable for return was 2-4 weeks from the beginning of November, it appears that his return will likely be toward the latter end of that timeline.

Impact Jones is one of the NBA's best defensive forwards but is now expected to operate as a small-ball center for New Orleans alongside Zion Williamson in the frontcourt. The departure of Jonas Valanciunas has left a gap at the position that could also be filled by rookie Yves Missi, but Jones' shot-blocking prowess at his size could earn him starting center minutes early on.

Jones has scored in double digits in just four of his 12 appearances this month, and this 18-point output was his joint-best scoring mark since posting a 19-point effort on Feb. 23, so he's not expected to carry the Pelicans on offense in Game 3 of the series Saturday.

Impact Jones finished with a solid performance Friday despite the loss, and he was able to contribute on both ends of the court with decent numbers in categories such as assists and steals. Jones has been a consistent do-it-all weapon for the Pelicans of late, averaging 11.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game since the All-Star break.
