Officially waived The Spurs waived McDaniels on Wednesday, per the NBA transaction log.
Impact The Spurs acquired McDaniels and a second-rounder via trade Monday, but he'll be cut loose just two days later. The 26-year-old appeared in 50 games for Toronto last season, averaging 3.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists across 10.8 minutes.

Impact The Spurs also secured a second-round pick with this transaction. McDaniels is a versatile defender, but the Spurs have a lot of depth at both forward spots, so it will be tough for him to crack the rotation. In fact, the Spurs are planning to waive him in the near future, Shams adds in his report. In 248 career regular-season games, McDaniels holds averages of 6.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Impact During his first year in Toronto, McDaniels served as depth in the team's forward rotation. In 2023-24, he averaged 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.8 minutes across 50 appearances, including one start. However, the 25-year-old mightily struggled with his efficiency, posting 34.4/16.9/73.0 shooting splits. If McDaniels isn't able to drastically increase his offensive output, he will likely struggle to find minutes in Sacramento.

Impact McDaniels played for 37 minutes at the four in his first start of the season. The San Diego State product has failed to catch on with the team, averaging only 10.4 minutes on the floor over 45 games. He's now with his third team over five seasons, and although we may see more of him as the season draws to a close, it may be too late for him to show his stuff.

Impact McDaniels will join Immanuel Quickley, Garrett Temple, Gradey Dick and Malik Williams in the first unit for the shorthanded Raptors, who only have eight players available. It'll be McDaniels first start of 2023-24 and a strong opportunity to score in double figures for the fourth time this year.

With new playmakers like RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley in the headlines, it's easy to discount McDaniels, but explosive totals like this could help his chances to make a bigger impact down the line.
