Plans to opt in with Sixers Harden (hamstring), whom Philadelphia acquired from Brooklyn earlier Thursday, informed the 76ers that he intends to exercise his $47.37 million player option for the 2022-23 seaso... Impact Harden's commitment to picking up the option ensures he's not merely a rental for the 76ers, who shipped out Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and two future first-round picks to bring the one-time NBA MVP to Philadelphia. With the 76ers, he'll team up with the current frontrunner for this year's MVP (Joel Embiid), while likely shifting over to shooting guard to accommodate second-year point guard Tyrese Maxey, who profiles better in an on-ball role. Even so, Harden shouldn't notice too dramatic of a change in his production with the 76ers, as he was already a top-flight fantasy producer while playing alongside two high-usage players in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn. Assuming Harden is able to quickly move past the sore left hamstring that kept him from playing in his final three games with Brooklyn, it shouldn't be long before he steps into a big-minute role with his new club. Harden may have a tough time gaining clearance for the 76ers' upcoming back-to-back set, however, with Philadelphia returning to action Friday versus the Thunder before hosting the Cavaliers on Saturday.
