Playing at 80 percent Thompson (Achilles) said "I think I'm at like 80 percent" during an interview with Anthony Slater of The Athletic the day after Super Bowl. Impact Thompson's recovery from back-to-back devastating injuries has been well documented, but the three-time NBA champion isn't taking anything for granted and, despite finally returning to game action, still feels like there's a long way to go before he's back to the player he was before the injuries. He's appeared in 16 of 21 contests -- sitting out back-to-back games just once -- this season and is averaging 17.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists across 25.3 minutes per game. Golden State has been adamant about keeping a close eye on his playing time, but he did garner 30-plus minutes in three of the Warriors' last four games before the All-Star break. Thompson is shooting just 41.8 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from distance, which would both be career lows, though there has been conversations about the long stints on the bench impacting his ability to find any in-game rhythm. However, Thompson appears to be more worried about the defensive side of the ball, "as far as my lateral quickness, it's about 80-85 percent from where it was. I know it'll take time to come back. There will be bumps in the road." After admitting that his desire to overcome the ACL injury might've contributed to the subsequent Achilles injury, Thompson is expected to continue playing it safe for the remainder of the campaign, which may mean periodically sitting out contests to ensure he doesn't overdo it again. The Warriors have 23 contests left before the playoffs, but fantasy managers' expectations for Thompson should remain tempered, as it remains clear that he -- and the Warriors -- will use those remaining games to focus on getting ready for a hopeful playoff run.
