Good to go for regular season Nance (ankle) said Friday that he'll be ready for the Pelicans' regular-season opener against the Grizzlies on Oct. 25.

Impact Nance didn't suit up this preseason due to a left ankle injury but has returned to practice. It appears that the Pelicans were just being cautious with the veteran big man so that he could be ready for the regular season. Nance is expected to be New Orleans' backup center behind Jonas Valanciunas.

Impact Although Nance was able to make it through practice Tuesday, he was downgraded to out for Wednesday's contest after initially being tabbed questionable. Nance's absence should allow for Jaxon Hayes, Naji Marshall and WIlly Hernangomes to see more minutes. However, the Pelicans will likely trot out a tightened rotation for the win-or-go-home matchup. If New Orleans manages to defeat the Thunder on Wednesday, Nance will have another shot at playing Friday against Minnesota.

Impact Playing for the first time since Feb. 25 after missing the previous six games with a left ankle sprain, Nance received his second-fewest minutes of the season. Considering that Nance racked up three fouls during his limited time on the court before the game devolved into a blowout by the end of the third quarter, head coach Willie Green likely made a deliberate choice to restrict the big man's minutes. Nance should see his playing time pick up in future games, but he'll likely need a consistent 25-plus-minute role before he re-emerges as a pickup in most 12-team leagues.

The Pelicans haven't released a timetable just yet, but at this juncture in the fantasy season, it's risky to roster injured players outside of an injured reserve spot.
