Ruled out Saturday Markkanen (hamstring) won't play in Saturday's game versus the Pelicans, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Impact Markkanen will miss his first game of the season Saturday after being downgraded from questionable to out for Saturday's contest due to left hamstring soreness. Ochai Agbaji, Talen Horton-Tucker and Simone Fontecchio are candidates to receive increased minutes in his absence. Markkanen's next chance to suit up is Monday's rematch with New Orleans.

Dealing with hamstring soreness Markkanen is dealing with left hamstring soreness and is questionable for Saturday's game against the Pelicans, according to Jazz radio host David Locke.

Impact Hamstring injuries can linger if teams are not careful, so this is definitely a concern for Utah and for Markkanen's fantasy managers. If Markkanen is held out Saturday, we could see Kelly Olynyk maintain a large role even if Walker Kessler (elbow, questionable) is cleared to return.

Impact Markkanen ended just one rebound away from what would've been his fourth double-double of the year. While he hasn't accomplished that feat since Nov. 1, Markkanen continues to play steady, productive basketball for the Jazz, scoring at least 20 points in each of his last six games and pulling down seven or more rebounds five times in that span. Markkanen should remain one of Utah's most consistent fantasy performers as long as he stays healthy.

Impact Markkanen didn't have his best shooting performance and needed 20 shots to score 22 points, but he finished two boards away from a double-double and once again was one of Utah's focal points on offense. Unfortunately for him, the Jazz are enduring a tough start to the season, and Markkanen's numbers have not translated into wins for the Jazz. Markkanen remains valuable in fantasy despite the team's woes, however, as he hasn't scored less than 19 points in any game and has surpassed the 20-point mark in four of his seven contests.

Impact Markkanen couldn't reach his fifth double-double of the season, but at least he surpassed the 20-point mark for the third time. Markkanen has scored 19 or more points in each of his first six games of the campaign, and while the season is still very young, he already looks like one of the most consistent frontcourt players in the league. Given his massive role on offense for the Jazz, he should keep producing steady numbers while flirting with double-doubles every time he steps on the court.

Impact Outside of Markkanen, the Jazz shot just 23.3 percent from beyond the arc in a game where they were down by 16 and halftime and 28 heading into the final quarter. His 24.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game over the first three contests of the season are on par with his averages from last season, and he'll continue to be a focal point in Utah's offensive scheme.
