Impact Westbrook stepped up while Patrick Beverley struggled at the point Friday, and given the way the two guards have performed, it seems like Westbrook is a better choice for the starting job. Beverley has a lot of intangibles and can provide a spark when he is on the floor, but Westbrook's numbers have been better. There's a possibility that Westbrook's numbers could creep back up as they experiment with the lineup in LeBron James' (thigh) absence.

Impact Westbrook shot 40 percent or under from the field for the third game in a row, but he was at least able to continue his trend of converting well from the free-throw line while piling up quality counting stats. Through nine games since transitioning to a sixth-man role, Westbrook has posted averages of 18.3 points, 8.1 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 three-pointers, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks in 29.7 minutes per contest while shooting 44.9 percent from the floor and 81 percent from the charity stripe. That sort of production is enough to keep him worth rostering in most 10-team category leagues, after he had previously looked like a potential drop candidate while struggling as a starter to begin the season.

Impact Westbrook was less efficient than he has been recently and also committed a team-high four turnovers, but he nearly notched a double-double with 14 points and nine dimes. Though the Lakers continue to struggle as a team, they at least seem to have resolved early-season issues fitting Westbrook into the game plan by moving him to the bench. Westbrook has played much better as a reserve this season, so head coach Darvin Ham may elect to keep him in a sixth-man role even if LeBron James is forced to miss time with the groin injury he suffered in Wednesday's loss.
