Won't debut Wednesday Fontecchio won't play Wednesday against Sacramento since his trade to the Pistons won't become official until Thursday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.

Impact Kevin Knox has a trade restriction until Thursday since he didn't sign with the Pistons until Nov. 8, so Fontecchio will have to wait at least a day before making his Pistons debut. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available Thursday against the Trail Blazers.

Sent to Detroit Fontecchio was traded from the Jazz to the Pistons on Wednesday in exchange for Kevin Knox and a 2024 second-round pick, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Impact Fontecchio had started in 34 of Utah's last 37 games, but he had somewhat inconsistent results, averaging 10.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 26.7 minutes per game. He'll be a restricted free agent following the 2023-24 season, and it's unclear whether the Pistons will be able to retain him beyond this year. It's also unclear whether Fontecchio will be able to claim a starting role in Detroit, as the team also has Bojan Bogdanovic (calf) and Ausar Thompson.

Impact Fontecchio was sharp from beyond the arc, and while he didn't do much else in other categories, at least he scored in double digits for the fifth time across Utah's last seven games. Firmly entrenched as a starter, Fontecchio is averaging 9.9 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 39.1 percent from deep since being promoted to a starting role.

Impact Fontecchio ended with single digits for the first time in the past five games, adding very little in terms of supporting stats. Despite averaging just 10.3 points per game over the past two weeks, Fontecchio has managed to flirt with top-100 value. He is by no means a must-roster player but is doing enough to be considered, especially if points are not a priority.

His scoring has been inconsistent of late, but he profiles as the only true wing on Utah's roster with the ability to defend multiple positions, which should maintain his healthy rotation role moving forward.

Impact Fontecchio's continues to start and log his normal workload, but he finds himself in a 4-for-16 mini-slump from beyond the arc over Utah's last three games. The Italian has blossomed into a relevant two-way contributor in his second season with the Jazz, however, making him a slight bounce-back candidate moving forward. Across 20 games as a starter this season, Fontecchio is averaging 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists while hitting 36.7 percent of his threes.

The Jazz have used a lot of different starting lineups this season, but Fontecchio is making a strong case to keep his spot.
