Grabs nine boards vs. Golden State Kessler totaled two points (1-1 FG), nine rebounds, two assists and one block in 20 minutes during Friday's 127-86 loss to the Warriors.
Impact Kessler was the Jazz's leading rebounder Friday, though that was about all he did in a blowout loss. Kessler had just one shot attempt and won't likely see many field-goal tries while playing alongside Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and Keyonte George. However, Kessler will provide plenty of value on the defensive end of the floor, highlighted by his 2.4 blocks per across just 23.3 minutes per game over 64 regular-season outings (22 starts) during the 2023-24 campaign.

Inefficient during Friday's blowout Markkanen provided 13 points (4-17 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 4-7 FT), eight rebounds, two assists and one steal over 27 minutes during Friday's 127-86 loss to the Warriors.
Impact The Jazz shot just 31.5 percent from the field Friday (including 9-for-42 from three-point range), and Markkanen was not immune from those shooting struggles as he connected on less than 25 percent of his field-goal attempts. It was a far cry from his 35-point outing during the Jazz's loss to the Grizzlies on Wednesday, but these nights will happen for a young team coming off a 31-win 2023-24 campaign. Markkanen will look to bounce back against Dallas on Monday.

Leading scorer off bench Friday Collins contributed 14 points (4-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 5-5 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal over 24 minutes during Friday's 127-86 loss to Golden State.
Impact No Jazz player who attempted at least six field-goal attempts shot better than 40 percent Friday, but Collins did manage to lead the Jazz in both points and assists during in the blowout loss. Collins has been a starter for most of his NBA career, but the 2017 first-round pick has been the first big man off the bench to start the 2024-25 regular season due to Walker Kessler serving as the starting center. Collins will look to earn a bigger role against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks on Monday.

Impact George had a rough performance from a shooting perspective in this season opener. However, the second-year guard should have all the opportunities in the world to shake off the rust as the season progresses. George will remain the Jazz's starting point guard and should see enough minutes to be a consistent performer regularly for a rebuilding Utah team.

Impact Kessler was extremely efficient Wednesday and delivered a strong effort on both ends of the court, though his 14 boards and five blocks certainly stood out. He looked dominant regardless of whether he was matched against Zach Edey or Jay Huff, and he should be a regular double-double threat as long as he remains the starting center for the Jazz. All signs point to that being the case, though.

Impact Markkanen led all players in scoring Wednesday, but his impressive performance wasn't enough to lift the Jazz to victory in this season opener. Fresh off signing a five-year, $238 million contract extension with the Jazz during the offseason, Markkanen is firmly established as Utah's go-to player on offense, and both his numbers and his usage rate in this season opener certainly backed that up.
