Promoted to active roster The Titans have officially promoted Peterson to their active roster ahead of Sunday night's game against the Rams, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
Impact With Derrick Henry (foot) on IR and in line to miss extended time, Peterson is in line to help fill in for for the team's injured star. He initially joined Tennessee's practice squad earlier this week but after showing well in practice, the team is prepared to have him suit up this weekend and share backfield duties with Jeremy McNichols, while Dontrell Hilliard and/or D'Onta Foreman are also candidates to be elevated from the practice squad. It remains to be seen how much volume the 36-year-old Peterson will see in his season debut, but he should garner enough early-down work in tandem with McNichols to help those scrambling for running back options in Week 9.

Impact The veteran tailback has practiced with the team the past few days after joining the practice squad Monday, and he apparently made a strong early impression in Tennessee. Jeremy McNichols is currently the only available running back on the Titans roster with Derrick Henry (foot) and Darrynton Evans (knee) on injured reserve, so Peterson could quickly be a factor in the backfield.

Impact Peterson remains listed as a member of Tennessee's practice squad, but all reports to this point have suggested he'll be officially elevated to the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams. The 36-year-old remained unsigned throughout the offseason and through the first eight weeks of the regular season before landing with Tennessee, but he appears to have kept himself in game shape while he waited for an opportunity to emerge. The Titans aren't expected to lean heavily on Peterson if he's active Sunday, but he'll likely have at least a small role in the team's ground attack Week 9 as Tennessee looks to replace top back Derrick Henry, who is expected to miss 6-to-10 weeks after undergoing foot surgery Tuesday. Jeremy McNichols is the only healthy back currently on the Tennessee roster.
