Impact Erickson just joined the organization Wednesday. He likely doesn't know the playbook well enough yet to contribute significantly on offense as a wide receiver, but Erickson also has extensive experience as a return man and could be deployed in that special teams role.

Impact Erickson appeared in eight games with the Chargers in 2023, but he's spent the whole of the 2024 season so far in free agency. The Patriots have arguably the most shallow group of wide receivers in the league, so it's not out of the question that he could find his way onto the field before the year ends.

Two more catches in loss Erickson caught two of his five targets for 29 yards in the 13-12 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

Impact The 31-year-old joined the active roster in Week 11 and after injuries to Joshua Palmer (knee) and Keenan Allen (heel) somewhat miraculously emerged as the team's top target finishing with 16 receptions for 232 yards, each higher figures than his past three seasons combined. It's safe to say the veteran won't be a highly sought after free agent despite the positive small sample size, but it's possible Erickson could at least make a preseason roster given his special teams acumen.

Impact It appears as if Erickson has overtaken Jalen Guyton for the team's No. 4 wideout, a role which has seen more work in the two-game absence of Keenan Allen (heel). Despite the increase in playing time, the 31-year-old did very little tallying just his seventh total catch this season.

Impact With injury issues plaguing the Chargers receiving corps, Erickson has seen an increased involvement in the offense but has failed to record a game with more than one reception in his four appearances this season. The eye-popping target figure was matched by an equally shocking inefficiency, and it's not like the 31-year-old was targeted all that often deep, save for a shot early in the first half with Justin Herbert still healthy. Wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee) could return to action this week which would relegate Erickson further down the depth chart, and the offense as a whole looks far less enticing with Herbert (finger) now done for the season.

Impact Erickson has five catches for 90 yards on six targets, but he's been less successful in the return game and faces new competition there with RB Antonio Gibson now in the mix on special teams. Erickson, Dax Milne, Cam Sims and Dyami Brown are competing for what likely will be two or three roster spots at wide receiver, with special teams a big part of the equation.
